The Challenge

The Connected Worker Solutions portfolio is aiming to fill a gap by providing customers with an easy way to purchase, deploy and manage solutions that will help keep their workers digitally connected and safe. Businesses are increasingly concerned with worker safety, productivity and compliancy, but often not confident on how to move to a more digital based model while keeping costs and interruptions to daily operations down. TELUS offers one point of contact to walk businesses through all of their connected worker concerns and provide them with a customized solution of tools that will meet their unique needs.

Especially now with the pandemic, many businesses (health & safety managers and team/business leads) are currently looking to:

  • Avoid business interruptions caused by potential COVID-19 spread or worker injuries

  • Avoid business interruptions caused by unexpected asset/vehicle issues

  • Keep their business alive through a tumultuous time (i.e. reduce costs, tighter management, increase productivity, reduce sick leave/injury)

Currently there are individual connected worker solutions available in the market, but TELUS aims to fill the gap, by providing an all-encompassing option for customers, so they will not have to purchase through multiple vendors and deal with multiple billings, etc.

For companies/teams managing workers on or offsite, who are looking to modernize how they work during uncertainty and change, and provide a safe and productive workplace for all employees. TELUS Connected Worker Solutions offers employers the ability to trace, track, monitor and manage the well-being, effectiveness and productivity of workers in real-time. Leading to faster response times, safer work conditions, lower turnover and higher profitability. Unlike competitive offerings, TELUS’ solutions run over a secure, dedicated IoT Network and are supported by the TELUS Centre of Excellence.

The Process

Customer profile:

Target buyers: enterprises with a large employee population, working closely together, or enterprises that rely on on-site employee and consumer presence.

Key industries are: energy and natural resources, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, retail and service, and real estate industries.

Target buying roles: COO, CTO and other operational leaders, VPs and Directors of Health & Safety.

Top customer needs:

Workplace safety: policies must be in place to promote appropriate physical distancing, with tools to immediately warn workers infringing on these rules, and data to demonstrate workplace compliance with these rules.

Employee retention: in at-risk industries and workplaces, employees are justifiably concerned about their exposure risk at work, and that their employer is taking proactive steps to keep them safe.

Business continuity: for businesses to continue operating after a worker tests positive for COVID-19, they must ensure any worker who had close contact also is tested and/or self-isolates.

Public health regulations and norms: enterprises must meet the regulatory requirements set by governing bodies and retain social license from community and labour.

Key messages for communication:

  • Manage and contain rapid spread of COVID-19

  • Track and manage resources in real-time
